JOB SUMMARY: The ideal candidate will be responsible for assisting a classroom teacher with instructional programming during daily summer school hours (9:00 – 11:30 AM) for students in grades K – 5. After summer school ends, students transition into a summer day camp environment where Summer Enrichment Counselors will take the lead. They will guide students in various activities, games, crafts as well as supervise field trips outside of summer school hours (11:30 AM – 5:30 PM). Summer enrichment counselors will provide a fun, safe, secure, and structured environment for all participants.

Camp Hantesa (Boone, IA) & Camp Canwita (Ames, IA)

Camp Hantesa has been a part of the Boone community for more than a century. Camp Hantesa hosts hundreds of campers from across central Iowa every summer in day and overnight camps. Camp Hantesa provides a traditional summer camp experience with archery, outdoor living, rock climbing, creative arts, sports and games, canoeing, and daily swimming. Most Camp Hantesa staff will live on-site with room and board included on top of their summer wages. See job descriptions for details on each position.

Camp Canwita serves families in the Ames community and surrounding areas. Camp Canwita hosts Day Camps for campers entering grades 1 – 12. Camp Canwita provides a summer camp experience focused on outdoor learning, connecting with nature, avoiding summer learning loss with STEM and literacy programing, creative arts, sports and games, and daily swimming. JOB SUMMARY: Responsible for assisting in the upkeep of Camp Fire Heart of Iowa’s buildings and grounds. This position can expect to work with plumbing, electrical, carpentry, grounds, and minor vehicle and equipment maintenance.

Before & After School Care Program Staff Openings

Camp Fire Heart of Iowa is excited to launch a new Before & After School Program with the Prairie City Monroe School District!

Before School Hours 6:30am – 9:30am (M) 6:30am – 8:00am (T-F)
After School Hours 3:00pm – 6:00pm
Winter & Spring Break Care Hours 7:00am – 6:00pm
Camp Fire Heart of Iowa is currently seeking state licensure for the sites in order to accept state child care assistance (CCA) for qualifying families. The fee would be a standard $65 per week per child (without CCA). This would allow children to attend before school, after school, on school days off, or any combination of these options.
