Child Care Site Director
(Sparks After School Program at Merrill Middle School)

JOB SUMMARY:

The Site Director position is a direct care position responsible for the supervision of students and employees. This person will plan and implement lesson plans to encourage educational growth through structured time and free play among middle school aged students.

 RESPONSIBLE TO:

  • Program Director

TRAINING NEEDS (training provided):

  • Continuing education through approved training
  • CPR/ First Aid/ AED
  • Mandatory Reporter

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age.
  • High School Degree or GED Diploma and 1 or more years of experience in the child care field, OR Qualifying College Degree in a Youth Development Field
  • Must have current, or be willing to obtain a First Aid and CPR/Mandatory Reporter Certification
  • Ability to work with Children of all ages

Responsible for:

  • Preparing the weekly schedule for Middle Age Youth around to include a balance of activities, crafts, outdoor, and educational programs for the best possible program.
  • Making changes in the program when weather or other circumstances make it necessary. Being sure to communicate all changes with staff members and Center Director.
  • Supervising staff, including formal and informal evaluations.
  • Implements programs in a positive atmosphere.
  • Encouraging communication and team work within the staff, and being part of the programmatic planning.
  • Caring for the health of Participants. Make sure medication is given at the correct time and getting documented. Notify parents and Program Director as soon as possible in the case of an injury or illness.
  • Maintaining a 10:1 camper to staff ratio & taking daily attendance and calling to check on those absent unless prior notifications or arrangements have been made.
  • Communicating with parents when necessary on strengths and challenges of their children.
  • Keeping all necessary health and consent forms and medication and first aid records.
  • Collecting payments from parents brought to the site and writing receipts. Turn in to Camp Fire Service Center Office Staff as soon as possible.
  • Set-up and tear-down of equipment at your site at the beginning and end of the program. As well as maintaining expectations of the site as far as cleanliness and upkeep throughout the school year.
  • All other duties as assigned pertaining to the overall organization and delivery of the program.

Summer Day Camp staff positions are open in Ames and Des Moines for Summer 2018! Qualified staff members are energized every day to work with campers and share a passion for learning through experience. These positions do require staff to be outdoors throughout the day and to actively engage with all youth throughout the entire programming period. Day Camp Coordinator
Minimum Age: 21 Salary: $225-$312/week

Description: Responsible for the planning and execution of the Hantesa Day Camp. HDC runs 12 weeks from June 5-August 23 and has an average weekly enrollment of 70 campers aged 5-11 years old.
Resident Camp Coordinator
Minimum Age: 21 Salary: $225-$312/week
Number of Openings: 1
Description: Responsible for the day-to-day management of approximately 40 counselors and 150 campers within the resident camp program. Must possess the willingness and ability to lead, to be an excellent communicator, and be organized.
Riding Coordinator
Minimum Age: 21 Salary: $225-312/week

Description: Responsible for the oversight of the Hantesa English riding day and resident camp programs. Must have experience planning and leading English riding lessons.
Teen Leadership Coordinator
Minimum Age: 21 Salary: $225-$312/week

Description: Responsible for helping the campers in our teen leadership programs, aged 14-18, become leaders and in some cases, preparation for future work in the camp industry. Teen Leadership Coordinator will be provided with a curriculum that needs to be used within the programs.
Trip Coordinator
Minimum Age: 21 Salary: $225-$312/week

Description: Responsible for the planning and execution of multiple wilderness trips throughout the summer. This is a new position and experience with outdoor camping is an absolute must. Coordinators also must possess a drivers license and willing to drive a 15 passenger van, training provided by camp.
Outrageous Coordinator:
Minimum Age: 21 Salary: $225-$312/week

Qualifications: Responsible for the planning and execution of Hantesa’s outdoor oriented day camp for campers aged 9-14 years old. Outrageous Coordinator must be open to adventurous activities such as; ropes course facilitation, riflery, rock climbing, and canoeing.
Aquatics Coordinator
Minimum Age: 21 Salary: $225-$312/week

Qualifications: Responsible for the day-to-day management of the pool, lifeguards, swim lessons, and the care and upkeep of the pool area. Aquatics Coordinator must be a lifeguard and preference will be given to candidates

Riding Assistant Coordinator
Minimum Age: 18 Salary: $210-$294/week
Number of Openings: 1
Description: Responsible for the care and upkeep of the horses and the barn equestrian areas at camp. Also will be expected to assist the Riding Coordinator with lessons and supervision of campers and counselors in the riding program.
Photographer
Minimum Age: 18 Salary: $175-$252/week
Number of Openings: 1
Description: Responsible for documenting the day-to-day activities at all Hantesa day and resident camp programs. Photographer will also be expected to teach activities and interact with campers.
General Counselor
Minimum Age: 18 Salary: $175-$252/week

Description: Responsible for the direct care and supervision of the day and resident campers. Hantesa is an outdoor based camp so all candidates should be comfortable in nature. All counselors must love working with children, have energy and passion for the job and be reliable to the campers you serve and the co-counselors you work with.
Riding Counselor
Minimum Age: 18 Salary: $175-$252/week

Description: Responsible for teaching English riding, horse science and safety to Hantesa day and resident campers aged 9-18 years old. Must be willing to learn proper riding methods previous experience with either English or Western riding necessary.
Office Manager
Minimum Age: 18 Salary: Starting at $9/hour
Number of Openings: 2
Description: Responsible for the organization of Camp Hantesa summer programs. Office Manager must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs and must be comfortable talking on the telephone with parents and vendors. Preference given to candidates with previous customer experience.
Nurse
Minimum Age: 21 Salary: negotiable

Requirements: Responsible for working with the camp directors to ensure the proper health and safety of all campers and counselors at Hantesa. RNs, EMTs, and MDs preferred but all nursing certifications accepted.
Chef/Chef’s Assistant
Minimum Age: 21 (preferred) Salary: Starting at $10/hour

Requirements: Responsible for providing healthy and balanced meals daily for the camp community. Chef must have meal planning experience and must have experience preparing meals for people with dietary restrictions such as non-dairy and gluten free diets.
