Bob has served as the director of Camp Fire Heart of Iowa since 2005. Bob has over 20 years of experience working in youth development and nonprofit management.
Prior to coming on board with Camp Fire, Bob held a variety of positions in youth development primarily with the Boy Scouts of America, including directing the Learning for Life division in Minneapolis and as a field executive, in Omaha, developing at-risk youth and in-school character education programs.
In addition to his knowledge in program development and fundraising, Bob has served as a camp director and outdoor education facilitator. He holds a degree in Public Administration from the University of Northern Iowa.
When not at Camp Fire, Bob enjoys camping, photography, training dogs, and spending time with his wife, Brenda and two sons, Dakota and Jake.
Jenna grew up in Norfolk, Nebraska. She moved to Des Moines in 2012 after graduating from the University of Sioux Falls with a degree in History and Secondary Education. Jenna has experience working for Camp Fire, first as a Day Camp Counselor, then as the Outrageous Site Director. She has worked with youth in a variety of settings, and is excited to take the reins of the Club programs, as well as the Community Center Day Camp programs. Outside of the office, Jenna enjoys playing softball, traveling, listening to 90's music, and playing with her nieces.
Jenna joined Camp Fire in the spring of 2013 and is so excited to be the Assistant Director at Camp Hantesa. She looks forward to meeting campers (of all ages) and providing everyone with the amazing experience camp brings.
Jenna has over 10 years of youth development experience. Before moving to Iowa, Jenna worked as a youth coordinator for a city parks and recreation department just north of Denver, CO working with at-risk youth. She developed programs including summer camp and year-round specialty programs as well as partnering with the local Police Department to run Police Camp, positive ticketing incentive programs, and Cops vs Kids sports tournaments. She has also had the opportunity to study abroad in Russia working as a summer camp counselor.
When she is done having fun at camp, Jenna enjoys spending time with her husband camping, biking, hiking, or finding fun new places to travel and explore. She'll never turn down a hot cup of coffee and a good book, and she has a weakness for chocolate/peanut butter anything!
Michael grew up in Garden City, a small town in western Kansas. After college Michael, a proud Kansas State graduate, worked in New England camping for over a decade. Michael got his start as the Athletic Director at Camp Waziyatah. He then moved on to Camp Wekeela, where he stayed for seven years as the Head Counselor. Finally he graciously accepted the position of Assistant Director at Camp Caribou.
While at Camp Wekeela, Michael met his wife Erika. They have two daughters, Maya and Annika, who absolutely adore summer camp.
Michael loves traveling around the country with his family in their spare time. As previously mentioned, he loves all things Kansas State, he and his girls spend time in Manhattan, KS following everything from football to track & field. One of his daughters wants to be a K-State basketball player and the other wants to be the mascot. Michael can also be found playing a sport with a ball of some sort whether it be golf, tennis, basketball or Australian Rules Football; he loves them all. Michael is thrilled to be working with Camp Fire and is excited to get to know and love Iowa!
Sean grew up on a farm in southwest Iowa and has recently relocated to the Des Moines Metro area. Sean joins Camp Fire after graduating from Northwest Missouri State University and currently holds a Bachelors of Science in Parks and Recreation Administration and a Masters of Science in Recreation Administration. Sean has been actively involved in youth development and has experiences working with at-risk and delinquent youth and adults and youth with disabilities.
Sean will be working with Camp Fire's Child Care programs in Colfax, Pleasantville, and Prairie City as well as serving as the Day Camp Program Director of the Des Moines area Camp Outrageous and Camp Discovery.
Lauren was born and raised in Des Moines, in the Beaverdale area. She graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a degree in Leisure, Youth and Human Services and an emphasis in Outdoor Recreation. While attending UNI, Lauren became active in Camp Adventure where she spent three summers as a camp counselor and one as a site director traveling the globe to Japan, Italy, and Germany working with youth ages 5-12 on American Military bases in a day camp setting.
Upon graduating she took an internship turned job in Key West, Florida, again working on a Military base but with youth age 10-18 in a programatic setting. She moved back to Iowa to be closer to family and started working at Camp Fire as a Program Director in 2011. In her spare time she enjoys being outdoors, reading, playing roller derby, cheering on the Green Bay Packers, and of course spending time with friends and family.
Arika grew up in Council Bluffs, Iowa. She attended Abraham Lincoln High School. She moved to Des Moines in 2000 with her mother, sister, and brother and began working at a childcare center. Arika has also worked as a Bank Teller and a Customer Support Technician/Technical Support Agent. In 2008, Arika recieved her Administrative Assistant Associate Degree.
Arika's favorite thing to do is spend time with her three beautiful daughters, Akira, Kiara, and Tiana. She also enjoys playing volleyball, singing, bowling, and playing softball. She loves any opportunity to help people and be around children.
