Executive Director

Camp Fire Heart of Iowa is seeking a seasoned leader to provide direction and leadership in advancing the Council’s mission and strategically achieving its goals and objectives. The Executive Director must be a strong advocate of youth development programs, have a personal passion for advancing the mission of the Council, and be active in raising funds for the Council.  The Executive Director strives to bring best practices to all aspects of the Council’s work, performing duties in an ethical manner.  Through inspired leadership and thoughtful management, the Executive Director will work toward increasing public awareness and support to ensure that the Council grows to the next level of its development to be considered one of the premiere youth organizations in Iowa.

Des Moines & Ames Seasonal Positions

Summer Day Camp Staff- Various Locations (Ames, Des Moines, West Des Moines)

Summer Day Camp staff positions are open in Ames and Des Moines for Summer 2020! Qualified staff members are energized every day to work with campers and share a passion for learning through experience. These positions do require staff to be outdoors throughout the day and to actively engage with all youth throughout the entire programming period. The administrative team at Camp Hantesa is comprised of eight department coordinators who directly oversee a specific program at camp. 2020 Camp Hantesa Seasonal Counselor/Activity Specialist Positions

Camp Hantesa Counselors/Activity Specialists

At Camp Hantesa our staff serve a dual role as both cabin counselors and activity specialists. Each counselor chooses a particular department to be a part of and then is trained to lead activities within that department. Counselors are responsible for the day-to-day supervision of campers and implementation of camp programming. Counselors will have the opportunity to work with both day camp and resident camp programs. Counselors live in cabins with a co-counselor and children of the same gender during overnight sessions. 2020 Camp Hantesa Seasonal Support Staff

Camp Hantesa Support Staff

The support staff are an essential part of the team at Camp Hantesa. In short, support staff ensure that camp is running smoothly. They provide food, transportation, and functional work/living spaces for our staff and campers. Bus Driver

Minimum Age: 21
Salary: Starting at $70.00/day
Number of Openings: 1
Description: Responsible for the safe and timely transportation of campers from the Des Moines Service Center to Camp Hantesa and back. Additional responsibilities include transportation of campers to the lake and miscellaneous field trips, basic vehicle maintenance, and positively interacting with other staff, campers, and parents. Class B CDL with Air Brakes Endorsement is required to apply.

Maintenance Assistant

Minimum Age: 18
Salary: Starting at $8.50/hour
Number of Openings: 1
Description: Assists the Camp Caretaker with a variety of maintenance projects including plumbing, vehicle maintenance, carpentry, and other projects/needs as they arise.

Office Manager

Minimum Age: 18
Salary: Starting at $8.50/hour
Number of Openings: 2
Description: Responsible for the organization of Camp Hantesa summer programs. Office Manager must be proficient in Microsoft Office programs and must be comfortable talking on the telephone with parents and vendors. Preference given to candidates with previous customer experience.

Chef/Chef’s Assistant

Minimum Age: 21 (preferred)
Salary: Starting at $10.00/hour (Chef), $8.50/hour (Chef’s Assistant)
Number of Openings: 4
Description: Responsible for providing healthy and balanced meals daily for the camp community. Chef must have meal planning experience and must have experience preparing meals for people with dietary restrictions such as non-dairy and gluten free diets.
