Camp Fire’s Apprentice Programs offer teens valuable leadership experience through hands-on roles at Des Moines Day Camps, Camp Canwita and Camp Hantesa. Junior Apprentices assist with younger campers and begin learning counselor skills at a reduced cost. Older high school students can continue into the Apprentice Program—a four-week, service-based experience at Camp Hantesa that includes advanced leadership training, mentorship, and a week-long canoe trip. Completion may lead to future camp employment.

Pick up & Drop off Times

JA Day Camp Drop-Off: 7:30 – 8:15 AM (may vary by location)
JA Day Camp Pick-Up: 4:30 – 5:30 PM (may vary by location)
Overnight Camp Drop-Off: Sundays, 2:00-4:00 PM
Overnight Camp Pick-Up: Fridays, 5:00 PM

Ages Served

Kids entering grades 9-12, with modified programming based on grade level.

Apprentice: No Cost

Junior Apprentice, Summer Day Camp: $80/week

Junior Apprentice, Summer Overnight Camp:

*Tier A: $50.00 deposit, full cost dependent on income
