Camp Fire Heart of Iowa receives grant from Variety – the Children’s Charity

 

(Des Moines, Iowa) – Camp Fire Heart of Iowa has received a grant from Variety – the Children’s Charity to fund need-based scholarships for underserved, low-income children and teens in central Iowa to attend summer camps.

 

Camp Fire Heart of Iowa is an inclusive youth development, nonprofit organization serving central Iowa youth by connecting them with nature and helping them develop the skills needed for a happy, healthy life now and into the future. We offer a variety of youth and family programs including Out-of-School Time Programs, Summer Day and Overnight Camps, and Teen Leadership Development – collectively serving more than 3000 central Iowa youth every year.

 

The Variety grant will provide assistance to help 75 campers attend overnight camp at Camp Hantesa. This includes campers attending in partnership with Des Moines Refugee Support and our Camp Brave program for children and teens affected by crime. Camp Fire is experiencing a massive increase in demand for tuition assistance. Every day, our staff are answering phone calls and emails from families still struggling with their health, finances, and, in some cases, losses due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
