[Boone, Iowa]: Camp Fire Heart of Iowa held a pride-themed overnight camp week at Camp Hantesa centered on encouraging young people to discover their true colors. Camp Fire is a national inclusive youth development organization that focuses on connecting young people to the outdoors, to others, and to themselves. This special week of overnight camp is highlighting all the things that make you, YOU! Wear your true col-ours with PRIDE as we embrace our differences and celebrate as a camp community.
“Having a week that is just for people who have been through those trials and tribulations of trying to figure out their identity and what it means to be them, giving them that space and that safety for a whole week to be exactly who they are, to be authentic, to be their true self, to say gay…to be proud of it.” Says Emma “Aussie” Lodge, Camp Hantesa’s Overnight Camp Coordinator.
Features and benefits of our True Col-ours camp include:
- Creating space for those to feel safe and comfortable as they discover themselves.
- Allow for camper and staff to be their authentic selves and feel represented.
- Creating a space to have very open conversations about mental health.
